Meet Lise, the winner of our January Peacock Points Challenge! Every month we choose one of our Smart Art Subscribers to feature in our official blog. The only criteria is that you participate in the weekly challenges and hashtag on your socials so we can find you. After we scope out the internet for our favorites, we choose one winner to interview. We hope you enjoy meeting Lise as much as we did! And don't forget to participate this month for a chance to be featured right here :)
SAB: Where are you from and what do you do when you’re not creating?
L: I was born in May of 1941, will be 80 soon. Born and raised in a small town called Temiscaming,Qc.,Canada. When i’m not creating, you could find me sewing crafts, reading romance, baking sweets and lately baking breads. Since 5 years, my Honey and I downsized and moved in a Seniors apartment building. I had to give up being an Instructor for fabric sculpting with Paverpol.
With great joy, I have 2 sisters in their 90’s living in the same building, you can find me visiting them also.
SAB: When did you begin your artistic journey, and why?
L: Like many artist says; As soon as i was old enough to hold a pencil. I remember drawing a black panther from a ‘comic book’...James Dean’s face and flowers, fantasy images, I remember them all on my walls. Also being inspired by 2 little framed art piece that someone had painted underneath the glass. So i wanted to try it. So, i had to try it.....took the glass from a frame and painted my own version of flowers in the back of the glass so it would be preserved forever...hahaha.
Why..?
Because it was a natural thing for me to occupy my time, and I remember showing my sibblings and friends...I was so proud that i could do these drawings or paintings.
SAB: Are there any artists that you feel paved the way for you?
L: My mom was very creative with her decorations, especially for the holidays for her sewing..she made almost all my clothes, I remember my friends had Sears or Eatons catalogue clothes. I thought I was very special. I was very lucky, I had loving parents, and she was my idol . I only had the radio and some magazines...my pastime when i was a young teenager was to listen to the music and copy the words to the songs, that was how I learned the English language better. I don t think any artist paved the way...but later on, i discovered Michelangelo in the books at school , and when i was older i started to look for Robert Bateman’s images, I couldn't believe someone could draw and paint so realistic, then i was in awe of Norman Rockwell and still am. Today with the internet...I follow many artists to learn from them.
SAB: If so, can you describe the connection you have with them? (Famous and non-famous)
As for the non-famous, I always joined different art groups and the thing that I learned most was how to be creative...I learned that I liked it when we would have a theme or a Prompt word. That's when I discovered I would love the process of making that art piece. I always start with a ‘Brainstorming list’ for each art piece.
SAB: What made you want to subscribe to Smart Art Box?
L: I needed all the different mediums.
 SAB: Has it helped your creative process?
SAB: What do you find useful about the weekly challenges, if anything?
SAB: Is there anywhere else we can find your work?
L: @EvaliseThibodeauCousineau on Facebook. I used to be in exhibition with my art groups. Since a few years, I find I don t have the energy to participate anymore. I found a new pleasure, it is to make art for the family and close friends that keeps me close to their hearts, the ones that stay in touch, and gift it to them. My new passion is to satisfy myself, make things that makes me happy.
SAB: How has the pandemic affected your creative process?
L: I think, it actualy helped. Just because i have more time at home.  We want to thank Lise and all the artists who participated for January's challenge. Cheers to next month's winner, and to discovering all the amazing art you've created in February!
